Cary Hunkel is the illustrator of "Discovering Wolves." Art and wildlife have always been a part of Cary's life. At age four she started her art studies in a local artist's basement—no matter what the project, she always drew animals. After receiving her B.A. and M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she returned to pursue her dream of becoming an artist, obtaining a M.F.A. in 1981. As a wildlife artist, Hunkel has exhibited nationally. Her work has been chosen numerous times for the prestigious Birds in Art Shows at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI. She is a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists. Hunkel was featured in an "Artist Vignette" in Wildlife Art News (January/February 1991). She lives in Madison, WI with her Labrador Retrievers.
